Repeat Photography

OGI is excited to announce we have received funding from the Mazama Mountaineering Club Conservation Grant program to develop a repeat photography app for mobile phones. This will allow citizen scientists to take repeat photographs from crucial locations to document glacier changes, including the change in seasonal snowpack on glaciers as well as changes in the glacier size.

This is an exciting development and could not come at a more critical time. We have been surveying the snowpack on Oregon's glaciers as we enter the summer melt season and its not good. In the Three Sisters region, the snow telemetry sites and basin averages for May are 0-1% of average while up on Mt. Hood its a bit better at 50-60% of average. There is wide spread early meltout well above treeline where we survey. This mobile application will act as a force-multiplier for our efforts, for which we thank you for your continued support
