We are excited to announce a new What We Do kind of video that is now up on our website on this page https://www.orglaciersinst.org/what-we-do (about half way down!)
The video discusses a new field app we are developing for citizen scientists to create repeat photos to aid in glacier monitoring. This will be available later this year as we are still field testing and working out bugs/kinks/issues to make it fully scalable to glaciers around the world. Thanks to the Mazamas for providing the funding for the app development!
As an example, we recently took the opportunity to take the app to Mont Blanc to hit it with some way-outside-the-US digital/cellular realm to identify such bugs. It also allowed us to capture 3-year glacier change on the massif, with an example below for Glacier des Bossons that is visible in Chamonix. Just like in Oregon, global warming is hitting these glaciers so hard that their physical changes are easily seen in just a few short years! Top photo is early September 2022; bottom photo is late August 2025.

HEARTBREAKING IMAGES.
Congratulations on equipping citizen scientists with another vital way to collect crucial data. Odd to consider this uplifting, considering the story your work narrates, but your devotion to bearing witness inviting citizens to contribute relevant, evidence-based is empowering. WE CAN DO SOMETHING TO HELP. Thank you for your profound gift & efforts to help stave off imminent collapse.
