Hayden Glacier first observations

Hayden Glacier on Middle Sister of the 3 Sisters is one of the larger glaciers in Oregon. We set out yesterday (6/17/20) for some initial observations and take advantage of the fresh snow to increase mobility. One thing that is striking is the large nunatak (bedrock nob that sticks through a glacier) that is growing in the middle of Hayden Glacier (see bedrock sticking through the snow in figure below). As the ice thins, this nunatak will cutoff the terminus of Hayden from its accumulation zone, hastening its demise.
